Perfume Lust

That's right, I'm in lust right now......for a rather expensive & elusive scent from Byredo.
It's called Bal D'Afrique, it's a eau de parfum, and appears to only come in 100ml bottles.
There's just something about it that has me sniffing myself for hours afterwards & sighing with contentment.

This is the marketing write up:
A warm and romantic vetiver inspired by Paris in the late 20's and its infatuation with African culture, art, music and dance. A mix of the Parisian avantgardism and African culture shaped a unique and vibrant expression. The intense life, the excess and euphoria is illustrated by Bal d'Afrique's neroli, African marigold and Moroccan cedarwood.

What a load of waffle eh! Here is a more helpful breakdown of the scent:
Top: Bergamot, Lemon, Neroli, African marigold, Bucchu
Mid: Violet, Jasmin petals, Cyclamen
Base: Black Amber, Musk, Vetiver, Moroccan cedarwood

I've only just started being interested in fragrances recently.
Am currently reading Perfumes: The A-Z Guide

I've also stumbled upon BaseNotes, which is great for fragrance reviews and what not.
I have a growing interest in perfume oils to add to the list and feel like this could be a very expensive interest to indulge in - eek!

Am slowly gathering up all the little sample bottles of perfume I've accumulated, to start wearing them & see if there's any I'm keen on. Just bought a small atomizer this evening to start decanting scents into! (Just a cheap & cheerful one - Manicare brand to be precise - currently 15% off at Priceline). If anyone knows of anywhere else to purchase a small handbag size perfume atomiser (is it an 's' or a 'z'??) that doesn't cost a bomb - please let me know!
I'd like to have a few on rotation ideally. I'm in a super organising mode - but more on that later! Melbournite x

  1. Oh wow, where did you get hold of Byredo? You must have paid a tiny fortune :)

I'm forever reading Perfumes: The guide, such a great read, love it, but don't base my buys on the reviews in the book!

eBay is good for atomisers, but I buy little 1 ml glass vials and decant perfumes into them.

  2. Byredo was just launched in Australia, available in Mecca Cosmetics... and yeah - it's retailing around $230 & seems hard to come by internationally as well. I'm thisclose to purchasing....except I also like an even more expensive scent in the Tom Ford Private Collection - damnit! Curse me & my expensive tastes LOL
