Perfume Lust (again)

I work in an office, and being relatively new to Melbourne, I thoroughly enjoy heading out each mid-day to prowl the shops during my lunch break. Today’s effort was spent skulking around beauty counters picking up some samples to try out.

I happened to be passing the Chanel counter and decided it was the perfect time to acquaint myself with their fragrance lines.
Oddly enough – I have utterly no recollection of what the cult classic Chanel No. 5 smells like ! I house shared with a friend who had made this her ‘signature scent’ and I don’t recall it smelling unpleasant, but I do remember having brief sniffs of the Chanel range and thinking none of them were to my taste.

Today was heading into that direction again as I recoiled in horror from the Chanel No.19 bottle.......big turn off for me.

I dutifully sprayed the next bottle on a tester card, and fell into instant perfume lust. At last – something I liked!

That my friends, turned out to be

I think I’m starting to see a pattern of what scents appeal to me.

Notes listed are:

I sprayed Coco Mademoiselle on myself to see how it fared for the rest of the day, but it’s been perfume adoration since first sniff. I’m now in fragrance lust and MUST HAVE it!

Haven’t yet checked what the perfume guide book says about it......I’m not ready to burst my happy bubble yet if they completely savage it!

Anyone else dig Chanel fragrances or you avoid it like the plague as I have done for years?

Perfume Lust

That's right, I'm in lust right now......for a rather expensive & elusive scent from Byredo.
It's called Bal D'Afrique, it's a eau de parfum, and appears to only come in 100ml bottles.
There's just something about it that has me sniffing myself for hours afterwards & sighing with contentment.

This is the marketing write up:
A warm and romantic vetiver inspired by Paris in the late 20's and its infatuation with African culture, art, music and dance. A mix of the Parisian avantgardism and African culture shaped a unique and vibrant expression. The intense life, the excess and euphoria is illustrated by Bal d'Afrique's neroli, African marigold and Moroccan cedarwood.

What a load of waffle eh! Here is a more helpful breakdown of the scent:
Top: Bergamot, Lemon, Neroli, African marigold, Bucchu
Mid: Violet, Jasmin petals, Cyclamen
Base: Black Amber, Musk, Vetiver, Moroccan cedarwood

I've only just started being interested in fragrances recently.
Am currently reading Perfumes: The A-Z Guide

I've also stumbled upon BaseNotes, which is great for fragrance reviews and what not.
I have a growing interest in perfume oils to add to the list and feel like this could be a very expensive interest to indulge in - eek!

Am slowly gathering up all the little sample bottles of perfume I've accumulated, to start wearing them & see if there's any I'm keen on. Just bought a small atomizer this evening to start decanting scents into! (Just a cheap & cheerful one - Manicare brand to be precise - currently 15% off at Priceline). If anyone knows of anywhere else to purchase a small handbag size perfume atomiser (is it an 's' or a 'z'??) that doesn't cost a bomb - please let me know!
I'd like to have a few on rotation ideally. I'm in a super organising mode - but more on that later! Melbournite x
