Primped Lookbook Freebie Bag September 2010

As mentioned below, a friend & I were lucky to attend a Melbourne David Jones / Primped Lookbook launch event. It lasted for approximately 1 hour and we were treated to individual bottles of water whilst Yasemin Turker - the Editor of Primped - hosted the event.

I've gotta say, her photos in the lookbook don't do her justice. She looked lovely & radiant on the night, and I did see her beforehand getting the makeup done by the Bobbi Brown gals, which I was rather envious of as I had hoped to swing by there to get mine done too! Oh well, a treat to be saved for another time :)

Yaz talked us through the trends of the book, with a couple of makeup artists showing application tips, along with discussions on new season colours etc. And then at the end the goodie bags appeared and were distributed - YAY! There were some brand discounts offered on the night.....but as I was due for a dinner date, the only one I paid any attention to was the 25% off at OPI. I now wish I'd had more time to make leisurely polish selections, but as my nails are in a dire state at this stage, I stuck with just the one neutral shade purchase.

And onto the freebie bag contents - which I know I was bursting with glee to rummage through soon after receiving! Mine contained:
  • Batiste coloured dry shampoo
  • Natio & Model Co self tanners
  • Rimmel 3 in 1 powder blush & mascara
  • Endota & Evodia hand creams
  • Jo Malone hand cream & two 9ml colognes
  • Invisible Zinc 15ml tinted day wear moisturising sunscreen / foundation
  • Natio mineral trio eyeshadow
  • Bare Escentuals mineral foundation sample with mini brush
  • Hissy Fit samples
  • OPI mini rapidry top coat
  • Sally Hansen quick care clean up for manicures
  • Billy Goat full size plain soap
  • MOR perfume oil - full size!
There were other little sachet samples included as well of various brands, I'll just show you the photos

I can't believe they contain full size MOR perfume oils !!
I just purchased two of these for $19.95 each recently.
What a great haul! I was stoked.
Thanks to Primped once more for the event & the invite.

Now to start trying out some new products!

Has anyone else tried out any of the things listed above? Thoughts?

David Jones & Primped Look Book September 2010

Upon moving to Melbourne, I discovered Australia only really has two main department store companies.
They are Myer & David Jones. Both are in the process of major renovation & refurbishment in their Melbourne City Bourke Street locations. I've visited them in other mall complexes like Chadstone & Doncaster......but to get the full beauty lines available, it appears they're still  only based in the Bourke Street stores.

So it was of great interest earlier in the year that David Jones released a Look Book, in association with the website Primped, for the Autumn & Winter 2010 seasons. I had a flick though in store & was happy to discover a book of beauty sample freebies heaven! It contained marketing trends for the upcoming seasons along with a lot of free samples for many of the expensive brands out there - such as Creme de la Mer, La Prairie etc.

I also promptly checked out what the Primped site was all about & discovered they're the (self proclaimed) 'The go-to for the how-to in beauty'. I subscribed to their emails & saw on their beauty blog that they were holding a Lookbook launch night that included a 'famed' free goodie bag ! How great is that. They appear to currently launch the Look books twice annually, with the Spring / Summer book just hitting the stores as of 1st September 2010. Primped had open invitations to apply on their website for their book launch nights & I was extremely happy to have been selected to attend the other night. Yep - the freebie bag is well worth its fame!! I suggest if you haven't already signed up to the website - do so NOW!

Here's the current & previous Look Book in store at David Jones:

The previous one was far better for samples, which is a shame.

Australian companies seem to be gradually getting their heads around the concept of samples & the benefit to marketing this has. Personally, I'm far more inclined to purchase a product AFTER I've been happily offered a trial sample. If they expect consumers to part with hefty sums of cash to use their products, they should be sure enough that the products are worth the (often expensive) prices charged & happily provide a sample for people to try out. Not every product will agree with every person's skin type etc. Encountering a surly sale assistant who treats you like the great unwashed if you so much as enquire about samples is amongst the worst marketing a company can have.

I honestly think some places deserve to be named & shamed due to their shop staff !
That's right people - word of mouth WORKS!

Sorry - bit of a rant there.....back to the current September look book. The only sample on offer I can see is one for Lancome Teint Miracle foundation. Think I'll claim it during the week and see what it's like ;P
